Looking for the Beauty

“What we do see depends mainly on what we look for… In the same field the farmer will notice the crop, the geologists the fossils, botanists the flowers, artists the colouring, sportsmen the cover for the game. Though we may all look at the same things, it does not all follow that we should see them.”
– John Lubbock
We each have our own views and our own perspectives which makes us unique. We each have our own way of seeing the world around us, and that’s a powerful ability to have.
This fact is one of the reasons that I love to thrift and upcycle things: being able to have the vision for what something could be instead of what it currently is… To some people, the cabinet I’ve been working on the past week may have been a chunky, green, beat-up piece of junk… but I could see past the bad paint job to what it could be. And after putting in some elbow grease, it’s one of my favorite finds to date!
So many times we get hung up on the “green paint,” whether with items, with new ventures, with people, or with life in general, but what if we could look past it. What if we focused on what a little bit of effort and time could turn something into?
In the hustle and bustle of life in 2020, it’s easy to skip past the beautiful everyday moments that we encounter, but let’s make an effort to pause, to look past the here and now, and to see the beauty that could be. We each have our own special point of view, and we each can see the good in the things/people around us in our own way. So, let’s stretch those visionary muscles!
“He has made everything beautiful in its time…”
– Ecclesiastes 3:11
