I hope you all had a very merry Christmas! It’s hard to believe that 2018 is almost upon us. So, for this month’s “What’s Trending Tuesday”, I’d thought I’d give us a head start on the new year and look at what’s expected to be the top trends for 2018.
And here they are…
Colorful Kitchens
One trend that many sources are predicting for 2018 is the addition of color to kitchen spaces, mostly in the form of colorful cabinets.

We’ve seen Joanna Gaines implement this into a few of the designs we’ve seen on Fixer Upper and although my personal Dream Kitchen is pretty much solid white, I think this trend is so fun! The kitchen is often the “hub” of the home, so I think adding color here only adds to the energy of the house.
Most designers and DIY-ers are sticking with shades of blue and green for their spaces, but I’m excited to see what other colors may be appearing in kitchens in the coming year.

Vintage Lighting
Vintage lighting is also expected to be more prevalent in the coming year. I personally LOVE this trend. Many designers are bringing in vintage, industrial-looking pendant lights for kitchens and dining rooms as well as eclectic lighting sources for living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms.
This picture from Liz’s Blog is so beautiful, and I love these pendants that she’s added to her cozy cottage dining room (although, I will miss her trio of chandeliers that were once here.) They definitely give a farmhouse look (and we all know that I love any white home decor! π )
If you’re looking to implement this look to your home, there are many retailers offering lighting options to fit this trend including Lowe’s and Home Depot as well Houzz, which has a lot of great options like these two lights. (You can click the link to get more info and pricing.)
Concrete Accents
Concrete counter-tops have been trending for a little while now since Joanna Gaines introduced them early on in her and Chip’s HGTV show, and people are expecting even more of them in 2018 along with a few other unexpected concrete options including sinks and even some furniture pieces.

Florals
Florals are expected to make a real comeback in 2018. Whether large-scaled or small, flowers are predicted to be showing up not only in the typical pillow cases, curtains or bedding but in wallpaper and even furniture.
Continuation of Statement Floors
Statement floors are most definitely in the forecast for 2018. Whether it’s wood floor laid in an interesting pattern, cement tiles with a graphic pattern or tile inlays that make a statement, we’re expecting flooring that “shows up and shows out” in the coming year. I love the styles of both the floors below (especially that graphic black and white tile that Erin from “Cottonstem” chose for She-Shed (you can click her pic to go check out her lovely blog!)

I’ve also been seeing more and more of these pictures where hardwood floors just flow into a type tile, normally a hexagon/honeycomb pattern. I like it, but I think this is a very trendy idea that probably won’t last as long as herringbone or patterned hardwoods will.

The Colors of 2018:
Cooler colors seem to be the theme for 2018 with both Sherwin Williams and Behr choosing a shade of blue for their color of the year and Patone choosing a shade of purple. Behr’s “In The Moment” is my personal favorite because it is a bit more toned down than the other two options, but they are all fun and interesting colors.
Sherwin Williams: “Oceanside”

Behr: “In The Moment”

Patone: “Ultra Violet”

(*note: all the pictures from this post were pulled from various websites. They’re not mine, I just rounded them to put visuals with the trends π )
So we will see what happens in 2018… from the looks of it, we will have plenty to talk about in the world of interior design and home decor.
Hope you all have a Happy New Year, and, as always…
Happy Decorating!
I love the paint color In the Moment!
Me too! Out of the three, it is definitely my favorite! Thanks for checking out my post! π
Statement floors definitely showed up in this past week’s episode of “Fixer Upper”!!! #OnTrend
