Set Goals. Say Prayers. Work Hard.

Happy Monday peeps! And happy August! Can you believe this year is more than halfway over?! It’s definitely been a crazy one, to say the least.
Remember back in December/January when you set those “New Year Resolutions” or goals for the year? Well, how are those going? I look at my list about once a month, and I can tell you now that not all of them are going to happen this year.
I had 12 goals that I wrote out for this year. I’ve checked off three of them, I’m on track to finish five, but the other four have flown out the window. And I could try to tell myself, “Oh, it’s been a crazy year… it’s ok that some of those didn’t happen.” But then I hear my high-school band director saying “No excuses, just results.” ๐
So, what happened… well, if we’re looking at the quote at the start of this post, something went wrong between steps two and three. Ready for some “real talk”: I 110% believe in the power of prayer, but also have not been talking to God nearly as much I should. There is so much power there that He gives us access to, but it’s so easy to push that to the back-burner. (Goal 13: work on some prayer time…). And while, I’ve been putting in some work, I haven’t been putting my all into getting things done.
[At this point, you’re thinking “Dylan, where is the motivation in all this… I’m here for the positive, not the negative…” Stick with me peeps!]
Here’s the thing, at the end of the day, who set those goals?
Right, I did.
Who set your goals?
Right, you did.
So, if we set the goals, shouldn’t we also be the ones to give ourselves grace during the process?
We’ve checked off that step number one! Now, it’s time for us to dig deep into steps two and three. Let’s put in the prayer time, let’s put in the hard work. We’ve still got five whole months left in this crazy year, and we may not know what’ll be thrown at us next, but we do know that if God brings us to it, He’ll bring us through it.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
– Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
Whatever goals we set, we can achieve! And recognizing when we’re off course is the first step to making corrections. Your time frame may get pushed out, things may not get “checked off this year.” In fact, it may take 5x longer than you thought it would, but set those goals, pray about them, and put in the work. Success is sure to follow.
Keep on keepin’ on, peeps, and let’s have a great month!
