Forget the “Fake It…” Just Make It

Happy Monday peeps! Time to kick-off another week, and if you’re anything like me, the phrase “fake it ’til you make it” is a chant that has gotten you through more than one day. But, quick question: why?
Why do we put it on ourselves to “fake it” through another meeting, another conversation, another day? Maybe part of it is this whole obsession with perfection. We all strive for it on some level and wanting to be great and do great things is… well, great! However, we need to brush off these crazy ideas of being perfect all the time, especially when the situations around us are changing faster than ever before.
We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. (A lot of times we don’t know what today will bring…) But, we do know Who is in control of it all, and at the end of the day, that’s enough.
We’re going to make mistakes, we’re going to have to pivot in our plans, our goals, our schedules… and that’s OK because it’s part of life.
So, don’t be so afraid of making the mistakes! A lot of times, those moments are where we learn the most and where we become the most relatable. Believe me when I say, you’re not the only who has (fill in the blank…)
We all slip up all the time… but remember that you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take! This past weekend, I heard someone say “Strive for progress, not perfection.” As hard as you try, you’ll never be “perfect,” so let’s try to stop faking it… What we can do is always work hard and keep improving. Can I get an Amen?!
God knows we’re nowhere near perfect, and yet He loves us anyway.
“But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us…”
– Romans 5:8
So, why is it so hard for us to love ourselves? I think one step in getting past that is letting go of others opinions (and our own self-criticisms) and embracing that mistakes are inevitable and we can actually use them to help and inspire those around us.
Keep on keepin’ on, peeps! Don’t be afraid to mess up, and keep working hard at making progress.
You’ve got this! Have a great week!
