Hey peeps! Have you ever heard of the “Surprise Box Challenge?”
Neither had I until a group of my Instagram friends invited me to join in on their challenge! Terri over at @decorateandmorewithtip organized this fun event… Each of us were randomly assigned another person in the group, and we had to send them something ($10 or less) that they had to use in a DIY project.

Between projects and homework and regular work-work, I ended up here at the last minute coming up with something to do with my surprise from Jodi (@TheHouseHouseBlog on Instagram). She sent me some mixed ribbon that I ended up turning into a wall-garland-hanging-thing-a-majig….

I used a wood dowel that I already had, a piece of baker’s twine tied to each end for hanging it, and simply tied on the strips of ribbon…

And it ended up looking like this…
So easy right?! It kind of has a boho vibe to it, and I think for parties this would be such a great idea! You could hang it over a food/drink table or you could even use it as a photo backdrop.

I threw out a few “Christmasy” accessories I happened to have upstairs in an attempt to style it up. (I haven’t started bringing all my Christmas décor out quite yet.)

For a late night, last minute project, I think it turned out pretty well… Y’all know I’m a whites/creams/neutrals kind of guy, so all this red and green kept me on my toes for sure!
So, now when you’ve finished wrapping all your Christmas presents and have those few pieces of scrap ribbon that you don’t know what to do with, you can try stringing them up like this and have yourself a merry little Christmas party!
I sent a few “surprises” over to my buddy Mariah, and I’m so excited to see what she came up with. Check out her blog post about her surprise box project HERE!
And check out what all my other Insta-buddies came up with…
Thanks for stopping by the blog, peeps! Stay tuned for more on decking the halls! 😀
Ohmygawd! LOVE it. Great job, Dylan!
Dylan I love how you think outside of the box! So cute!!!
Dylan your wall hanger is so cute and I LOVE the boho vibe it has. Not only does it work for a party but a great conversational piece. I love the idea for neutral ribbons using it every day. Great idea. Happy Holiday and good luck with your homework!
Dylan this turned out so cute! While you must have been a little shocked at first at all the color, you handled it well! lol And apparently you even had a few accessories that worked perfectly with it! A little pop of color works so well this time of year. It’s so cheerful. What a fun challenge.
This is soo great! I love it!
I love what you did with all the ribbon! So fun and festive!
It turned out beautifully!! I think it has a vintage feel which I adore!!!
