Summer has flown by and fall is practically here! I wanted to take time to highlight a couple of home trends that’ll be showing up this year, so let’s jump right in…
The Curated Look
While I think this look is appropriate for any time of year, it’s perfect for this fall.
So, what is the curated look? Basically, it’s a mixture of various pieces from various styles that somehow work together to form a cohesive space. There are no rules, anything goes!
The key is to layer a lot of unique, textural items into a space until you reach a point to where it looks as if you’ve been collecting for decades. And the great thing is, you don’t have to spend an outrageous amount to make it happen.
Gather items from your local thrift stores. Stop by yard sales or estate sales to search for some treasures. And once you have found some items that speak to you, play around with their layout in your space until you find the look you like.
Your home should make you happy, which means the items within it should, too.
Chunky Knits
They’re everywhere! Blankets, clothing, pillows, even ceramic dishes are being made in a cable knit pattern. This look really helps to ring the in the cozy, warm aspect of the fall and winter season, and with so many options, it’s easy to incorporate this trend into any room or wardrobe (or both!)
This style was popular in the market last fall as well, so if you stocked up on any chunky knit pieces, you are already to trend this fall!
Mixing Patterns
Mixing patterns is in this season… buffalo check, plaid, stripes, polka dots, chevron, florals, damask… you name it, it goes!
I really like this trend, but it can go “overboard” really easily. So, I suggest mixing patterns that are in the same color family. I think this is a great option both for living room and bedroom spaces (using blankets and pillows) and for tablescapes in the fall season. With a patterned runner, some colorful chargers, patterned napkins, patterned bowls… the possibilities are endless. And don’t be afraid to mix and match! (If you don’t like it, you can always change it.)
Trending Colors for the Season
According to Coastal Living, above are the colors that Pantone are saying will rule the fall season. (You can read all the details HERE.)
As you can see, there’s quite a bit of color coming this season. In addition to the typical reds, yellows, oranges and browns, we’re also seeing blues, teals and purples coming in strong.
Whether in your home or in your closet, you’ll be right on trend with any of these colors!

These are the trends that are popping up this season: curated spaces (and closets) with mixed patterns including some chunky knit pieces in both expected and non-traditional colors. So, be on the look out for these trends in the stores around you!
Thanks for stopping by the blog today, and happy decorating/shopping for a new season!
