5 Treasures I Search For At Thrift Stores

Guys, this past Wednesday was incredible! I had the privilege of co-hosting “Let’s Go with Layla” with Layla from the Lettered Cottage, and it was/is the highlight of my blogging/instagramming career for many reasons.

First, it pushed me out of my comfort zone creatively and personally, something that I (and all of us really) need to have done more often. Second, the response to my trip to Goodwill was nothing like I ever would have imagined. I was hoping that maybe a couple hundred people would see my videos and that i might get a few new followers (not that followers/numbers matter, but I like to interact with new people who share my interests in home and decorating). I never expected the amount of sweet, sweet messages and comments that I got from literally HUNDREDS of people, to the point that I was brought to tears simply by the kindness sent my way.

My mind is still blown, and it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that my following more than doubled over the course of a few hours. To say I’m thankful/grateful for Layla is the understatement of the century. Because of her, I’ve gained some new friends, greater self-esteem and stronger drive than ever before to keep pursuing this passion of mine.

And all because I sent her a message thanking her for sharing one of my favorite bible verses (James 1:2)…it’s funny how things like that work.

“Anywhoobs” (as Layla would say), I thought I’d put together my 5 things that I typically look for while thrifting into a blog post for you, so “Let’s Go!”

1. Bargain Mirrors

Thrift stores like Goodwill are a great place to find some pretty mirrors (and frames, too)! Pretty much every mirror I have, including these pictured below I found at Goodwill, Salvation Army or other local thrift stores. A lot of times the frames look dated or scratched, but that’s nothing some good old chalk paint can’t fix!

Both of these mirrors I used in my Christmas decorating this year came from Thrift Stores! Isn’t paint amazing?!

2. Pretty Planters

Thrift stores are also a great place to find some vintage, good-looking, unusual vessels that you can you for real or faux plants/florals. I love detailed clay pots or chippy/distressed tin like this one and I’d much rather get them for a couple of bucks (or sometimes cents) than pay top dollar for the same thing.

3. Vintage Books

My favorite of the vintage finds! Maybe it’s because I’m a nerd, but i love just having these old books laying around all over the place. They give any space more of a “story” and can bring some great vintage texture in anywhere!

4. Vintage Dishes

If you’re anything like me, you easily loose your keys… and your wallet… and your phone… (and I can magically do it after having the thing in my hand 30 seconds before! It’s a real talent!) So having designated spaces to drop this stuff can help eliminate those problems. I love using vintage bowls or platters with good details or scalloped edges as “catch-all’s” for this. I keep one in my entry way, which is where my wallet, cards, important receipts I need to take with me or file away go, and I have another one on my night stand that holds my earbuds, phone charger (sometimes candy… don’t judge 😂). And while the stuff in it isn’t always pretty, it helps a lot!

For example, this one holds my headphones and chargers when they’re not in use. (Side Note: That candle there is one of my absolute favorites! It’s the Glade Sultry Amber Rhythm candle) 😍

5. Thrifty Silver Pieces

Whether trays, teapots or anything in between, vintage silver is always a beautiful addition (in my opinion). Trays can often be found at Goodwill for a Bargain, and can be hung on a wall, turned into a chalkboard, or simply put on display.

So, those are some things I look for while thrifting, and getting to share these ideas for “Let’s Go with Layla” was so amazing! And I’m so thankful for all my new friends who have decided they want to see/hear my ideas and ramblings.

I’m planning on 2020 being a great year, and I can’t wait to share more of it with you!

Happy Decorating, friends!!!

P. S. I’d love to see your thrift store finds! Feel free to tag or DM me on Instagram or Facebook anytime! ☺️☺️☺️
