Where is my worth?
I don’t think we typically ask that question. We just unknowingly supply whatever answer seems to work for the moment. Our job, our bank account, our level of education, our following on social media, our salary…
But is that really all we are? Just a title, a monetary figure, a piece of paper, a number?
This past week, while on vacation, I picked up my phone to check out Instagram stories, and I came across one of my favorite bloggers: Liz Marie Galvan. And it was like she was speaking directly to me. After opening up about the struggle she was having with feeling worthless… she posed the same question I’m posing in this post.
It’s rare that we actually consider where we find our worth, and even rarer that we consider it’s credibility and permanence. While we hope and pray that we don’t, we could loose our job tomorrow, our bank account could be cleaned out, our diploma could be lost in a fire, social media could cease to exist… Where would that leave you? Scared… hopeless… worthless?
I don’t want to be left in that situation. That’s why we should place our worth where it really counts.
“But store up your treasure in Heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also…”Matthew 6:20-21 (NIV)
God says our worth isn’t meant to be found here on Earth. It’s found in Him.
I believe our true worth is in the talents we’re blessed with. It’s in the moments where we have a positive impact on another life. It’s in the families we build. It’s in the ambition and strength we muster up to overcome life’s challenges.
You are NOT worthless. You are talented, and strong, and ambitious, and worthy of goodness.
Don’t ever doubt that!
Where are you putting your worth?
