What’s Trending Tuesday: Adding Texture

Happy Tuesday Friends! It’s time again for a talk about trends, and one HUGE one is adding texture to both your home and your wardrobe in some unexpected ways.

One way in which to do this is adding some unexpected items to your walls whether it’s baskets, wreaths, architectural pieces, etc.

I think this look really took off when the “queen of farmhouse”, Joanna Gaines, started adding 3-D wall decor to her design and styling projects.

These days, anything goes! Here’s a few examples from my own spaces of how I added some “texture” to my simple Navaho White walls…

I found this ornate piece at one of the thrift stores in Gainesville and thought it was so pretty! It’s fairly light so it doesn’t require any major hardware to hang. (I just used thumbtacks.) And I’ve put all kinds of florals in here… usually it’s these faux ferns, but at Christmas I fill it with greenery and add some ornaments to it!

I love empty frames and what all you can do with them! Above and below show some examples. Whether it’s a wooden pumpkin from target or some simple strips of extra ribbon or fabric, they can easily dress up a wall.

I also LOVE letters! Galvanized, painted…. metal, wood…. they are great for decorating! These pictured above my bed are from Michael’s, and I love the texture they add to this space!

(Side Note – Bedding sources are as follows:

Ruffled Comforter: Bargain Hunt

Black/White Striped Throw: TJMaxx

White Ruffled and Printed Accent Pillows: Old Time Pottery

Large Square White Pillows: HomeGoods )

More empty frames with some 3-D decor! This blueish metal wall-hanging file holder is also from Michael’s, and I filled it with some vintage song books I’ve collected from thrift stores and some faux fern greenery.

For fall, I switched the basket out for a chalkboard!

And, of course, a Magnolia wreath is perfect for any space time of year!

So, these are just a few ways to add something other than the typical paintings or canvases to your walls! And there are so many other things you could do from baskets to architectural pieces, etc. Just be creative, and do what you want. It’s your space, after-all. 🙂

Texture in Men’s Fashion

This trend of texture is also carrying over into the world of fashion, particularly for Fall and Winter 2017. For example, we are seeing all sorts of fabric beings mixed in new ways and quilting being done everywhere from the Runways to retailer shelves!

Here are some Runway/Pinterest looks that show how a mix of different textures in an outfit can look so good.

This image is a good example of shape because of the paisley tie. Paisley has a bunch of organic teardrop shapes.
